Our calling
As the world gets stupider and our food supply gets more and more contaminated we see the increasing need to help each other be super careful about what we consume, because as we humans become what we eat. This bakery is our family's attempt at fulfilling that calling.
About the family
We have lived in Idaho most of our adult lives, since 1990. Our daughters were born and raised in Coeur d'Alene. We are not only primarily children of YHVH Elohim, the Most High and part of scattered Israel, but we are also Idahoans and have been small business owners in Idaho throughout the decades.
We (Isaac and Rebekah) have been married for 27 years and have 2 daughters. We both went to Walla Walla College and finally graduated from North Idaho College, University of Idaho and Boise State University respectively. I (Rebekah) spent time over seas as a missionary and worked at summer camps in California and Idaho. Together we have lived many places in Idaho. From a cozy downtown CDA house to a challenging canvas teepee in the snow belt of Idaho's Selkirk Mountains. From living in an apartment on Boise's Greenbelt to an old frontier log cabin in the Coeur d'Alene Mountains. We have homesteaded, home schooled, been modern pioneers and have done "Idaho hard" –– beautifully and with deep faith. And at times, our family has been active in fighting for conservative Idaho values in their own neighborhood.
I (Rebekah) grew up on a fruit farm and has always loved harvest time. I remember my mom and grandma's harvesting each year and making homemade bread weekly (actually everything was homemade back then). Baking, inviting to her table, harvesting and creating is in my DNA.
Both of us (Isaac and Rebekah) have worked in the food service industry throughout our lives in many different capacities. Our daughter Maggie graduated from SSC and spent several years as a Pastry Cook in an elite French patisserie in Spokane and now is bakery manager at a coffee shop in CDA. As a family they have catered banquets and Biblical Feast events for decades.
Built for our daughter
Our youngest daughter, Hadassah LOVES to bake and has done several cooking videos. This bakery is primarily being created for her to have a safe place to work. PLEASE READ ABOUT OUR EFFORT TO PROVIDE THIS PLACE FOR HER HERE AND HELP US.
We are so excited to build this organic bakery as I (Rebekah) am so passionate about eating clean organic food only and I want to help others care about what they eat, too.
Thanks for getting to know the family a little bit and for stopping by "the Beach!"
Many people ask us why we named our bakery, The Beach Bum Bakery, especially since we are not from California. Oh, bother!
The Beach is our happy spot!
Our family agrees on 4 things: religion, politics, food and GOING TO THE BEACH. One of the things we love most about Idaho is all the lake and river beaches. We LOVE the water, sunshine and the beach so we named our bakery "The Beach Bum Bakery." It is true that whenever we have a free moment we go to the BEACH! The beach is where we prefer to be! Whenever we need to get grounded, pray or find shalom we go to the beach. We LOVE all kinds of beaches. We'd be beach bums if we could. The lake and river beaches of Idaho are amazing and so are the Oregon Coast beaches! And of course, we also love the Mediterranean Coast and the Hawaiian tropical beaches. We'd like nothing more than to travel the world to visit all the beautiful beaches and water YHVH Elohim has made! We believe He will restore us to Paradise and I think that comes with a lot of beautiful beaches to explore! We look forward to the Happily-Ever-After when the King comes and our beach life will begin!
That's why the name. :-)
